SW Project Under way
Following the success of 'Building Empire' and 'Returning to Jedi', I have started work on an as yet unnamed Star Wars Project. I have already transcoded and imported the entire original unaltered film into FCP. I've also been through 'Empire of Dreams', 'WSWRTW' and 'The Making of Star Wars' and imported all of the behind the scenes clips. After editing them all into place this thing is beginning to take shape. I can genuinely say at this point that the work that Garrett did on 'Deleted Magic' should not be underestimated. His Jabba scene reconstruction is first class. I think I will have to reconstruct it in NTSC and convert to PAL, as most of the available footage is in the American format.
Several OT.com members have been very kind in sending me storyboards, photos and videos showing Lucas' influences for which I am very grateful. Another member was kind enough to distribute some copies of 'BE' and 'RTJ' at Celebration IV - though I am still to hear how that went.
There is so much to do on this SW project, I think it's going to take a long time. Furthermore my real life work is very busy at the moment, so I may have to wait for the autumn/winter to get the bulk of the work done.
Please contact me if you find any rare footage or have any information that could be included in the text straps.
Many thanks
JD

Ha ha .... When I did Deleted Magic, I slapped together everything I could find. You're gonna have a tough time of it, and I like that, because you're going to have to work even harder than you usually do and create something really great, and this project is really a chance to show how our two approaches to this sort of documentary differ. Your use of commentary and interviews ("Audio/Video Commentary") and a much more scholarly approach than my rather visual and jokey approach should make for an interestingly different experience. Also you have much better picture quality than I did on Deleted Magic - I didn't know what I was doing back then. I fully expect, like the last two times, to learn a lot about this movie that I never knew. And I thought there wasn't anything new to learn about these movies, but time and time again you've proven me wrong. I look forward to it.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah. I can't say I'm not amused watching you sweat. =) You got a tough road to plow there soldier. I know. I've been there. Incidentally, Deleted Magic is something I edited together as a joke on weekends when I was sick, because I was too sick to be editing my "real" movie, Gods of Los Angeles. So if you're sick, just take it as a badge of honor and edit anyway! Edit! Edit!
Blimey Garrett, this had only been posted for 3 minutes! Just to clarify, I am not sweating. I am just wondering when the hell I am going to find the time and motivation to get this thing done. ;)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed watching Retruning to Jedi and was happy to find Empire Building PAL on the fanedit site. I have downloaded via rapidware but when I can to open it up, WinRAR said I needed a password. I have not found a referance to this password anywhere. Can you please let me know what it is so I can enjoy you documentary. Thanks
